Careers never follow the same path, and this is also true of top sires. Their influence on the population is often not only dependant on their genetic level, but also their availability. And it makes no difference if a sire is only used sparingly for strategic or natural reason. At the end of the day the average breeder, provided they are interested in the genetics of limited availability sires, has to settle for their sons. And they are not necessarily of lesser quality than their sires, as the four examples below.
