The very popular “On-Farm” competitions have been judged in many of the Holstein sub-branches across Australia. The Mature Cow class winners were: Western Australia: Carenda Mainevent Vanda (Kitchen); Hunter Valley, NSW: Brokevale Rman Roxstar (Tolgarth); East Gippsland, Victoria: Glomar Supersire Sarah (Glomar).


The all-new Open Dairy Show was held in Chateau-Gontier with judge Joel Lepage selecting Night-Red (Light-Red-Olympian), shown by Du Louvion Holstein, as Grand Champion. Reserve Champion was Nohl Ikaye (Unix-Achille), from Pom Holstein/Nohl Holstein, while Honorable Mention went to Wilt Alaya (Fitz-Bradnick), from Gaec Wilt.  


Production averages have continued to climb impressively over recent years, especially in the area of components. During the last 20 years, Holsteins in the US have increased production of milk by 13%, fat by 24% and protein by 19%. 


Topping VOSt’s Select Sale was R&B Ailani-PP-Red, selling for €40,000. At 161 gRZG she is the Nr.1 polled red female in Germany. Sired by Hugo-PP, her pedigree traces through Solitair-Alaska in the Kamps-Hollow Altitude family. Danhof Lolapalooza (3063 gTPI, Rudy Missy family) sold for €23,000. The sale averaged €5,700.

Spero-Valiant Lambda Migos

The highly regarded transmitter Delta-Lambda now has a number of popular sons. They include Migos, from St Jacobs-ABC, who was bred by the Spero and Valiant herds in Canada out of a VG-85 2-year-old Doc from a Doorman daughter of Cookview Goldwyn Monique EX-96. Migos combines +433lb milk with a positive health trait profile and +2.43 gPTAT, 2.35 UDC, 1.15 FLC and 2607 gTPI. Expect moderate size and frame, shallow well-attached udders, and a very complete, no-holes profile.
