Their history as an independent breed is relatively short, and for a long-time Holsteins had little chance in Austria against the dominance of Fleckvieh and Braunvieh breeds. However, since the beginning of the new millennium, Holsteins have enjoyed ever-increasing momentum, and with over 50, 000 cows on milk test it is now the second strongest breed behind Fleckvieh. Holsteins can cow be found across Austria, from east to west, from the valleys to the mountains. And there are farms that do not need to shy away from the international spotlight. One of those is certainly that of Ulrich Kopf and his family.
